Faithful to the traditions and customs of our homeland, we promote and uphold with discipline, the values that have historically been recorded in the deeper sense of the "Cretan".

Crete is not only land, sky and sea, with undeniable beauty. It is her people, the culture, the music, the song, the dance that make the island unique!

In this DVD you will see two beautiful landscapes of Chania, the Venetian Port and the Frangokastelo Sfakion. Well-known artists - musicians, perform with soulful purposes and songs of Crete, with mantinades and beautiful melodies, to the sound of traditional instruments Lyra, Violin, Ascobadura, Lute, but accompanied by modern, but not misguided, musical instruments, such as drums and bass. Finally, dancers with ethos, stature, respect and love, sometimes caught on the shoulders and sometimes on the palms, bring to life myths and loves in a modern world that does not forget its roots....

Dancing is rightly considered the mother of the arts as it did not require the ability to use speech or musical instruments to perform. The only condition was the human body as a means of expression, communication and creation. .

It is one of the rare human activities where man is given completely: body, heart and spirit. That is why it appears very early in human societies as a means of externalizing emotions and as a cultic ritual. He is closely connected with religion, with celebration, with work, with love and with death.

Today, you can hear many people say that dance has changed their lives and they have felt mentally and physically rejuvenated by turning and embracing their daily lives with a new look. It is worth knowing the benefits that this activity will give you.

Anogianos or Mylopotamitikos

Musical measure 2/4. Local jumping dance of the province of Mylopotamos with a clockwise direction. Until the 1970s (there are records) it was danced by men with hand grip at the elbow height. It is possible that in the past he was also danced by women (oral testimonies). Today it is danced only by men with a cross hand grip.

Kastrinos jumping or Maleviziotis

Musical measure 2/4. Mixed pan-Cretan dance, jumping, with a clockwise direction, which is danced with the handles at the height of the elbow. The etiquette of the dance wants the first dancer to be replaced by two dancers of the cycle, who take his place without him, however, leaving him (that is, he becomes third). Georgios Hatzidakis considers it to be the oldest dance in Crete, as according to tradition it is a fiery (military) dance. This dance has 16 steps and allows great freedom of improvisation to the first dancer.

Haniotiκos sirtos

Musical measure 2/4. The first performance of the dance is attributed to the violinist Stefanos Triantaphyllakis or Kioros from Galouva, Lousakia, Kissamos, around 1750, who based his composition on two melodies, the first Hanioti purpose and the second Kisamitic purpose. These melodies were sung by the Cretan defenders of Constantinople after the fall of 1453 in Crete. improvisation to be completed within the time limit of the musical phrase (the so-called "ace crack", according to the biolators). The dance has 11 steps, the handles are at the elbow height and it moves clockwise. According to the etiquette, only the first two dancers (when they are only men) dance with a handkerchief, while the other dancers follow by walking. Traditionally, women dance separately and are accompanied by a man, who either dances them in the place of the first dancer or in the second place next to him.

Koutsambadianos or Katsambadianos.

Musical measure 2/4. Local jumping men's dance of central Crete with a clockwise direction, which is a variation of the pentozali. The etymology of the name comes from the Turkish big village = katsambas. According to another interpretation, it is the pentozalis that Captain Sifis danced from Abadia -today Amari- who participated in the revolution of Daskalogiannis in 1770, who was lame and took the appropriate step. The handles are at shoulder height, as in pentozali.

Lazotis

Musical measure 2/4. Mixed local dance of central Crete with the handles at the elbow height and clockwise direction. It consists of a combination of two Pontian dances of the simple tunal and the tic so knee and took its name from the Lazos

First Haniotikos sirtos

Musical measure 2/4. It is a pan-Cretan mixed dance with 11 steps with the handles at the height of the elbow and moves clockwise. It is the appearance of the Kissamite troll in the wider area of Chania, which in turn presents local manifestations throughout the prefecture, e.g. Apokoroniotikos (in the area of Apokoronas), Lakiotikos (in Lakkos), etc. as well as in the neighboring prefectures (Rethymnon, Heraklion and Lassithi). The plethora of manifestations is due to the fact that the melody of the troll dance is an idea of musical purpose, to which the performance must be adapted.

Sousta of Rethymno

Musical measure 2/4. Mixed pan-Cretan jumping dance with 6 steps. It is the erotic dance of Crete. Dancing couples improvise to the beat of the music to tell their own love story.
